Our facial recognition system uses a high def cameras posted atop a vehicle which is programmed to capture faces and places a box around the face:

The face shots are then captured, submitted, and compared against a DB of faces.  The distinctive characteristics of the face such as the width of the nose and depth of eye sockets are utilized submitted through an algorythm which creates a biometric template to be used for comparison of known faces that have previously been stored with associated information about the individual.  This data is then returned to the monitor which provides the user with the known details of the subject.  The classes of subject data is dependent upon the source of the entity or agency providing the data as a source.
